Truth in Song

by Miss Christine

At the beginning of 2020, I worked as a Field Organizer in Iowa and New Hampshire on the Bernie 2020 campaign. Being unable to tour because of the pandemic has given me a lot of time to reflect on my experiences as a musician and an activist. All of us have so much more power than we realize as individuals and it’s time for all of us to fight for social, economic, and racial justice within our communities. This song is about racial justice, climate change, transgender rights, and healthcare.

How many more black people are gonna die?
Before white people learn they have to do more than cry
We're running out of time
And big money won't let us decarbonize

Please expose them they've hid it far too long
Join me, singing truth in song

I'm sick of all the guys in their suits and their ties
Filling us with lies to protect their bottom lines
Don't say too much 'cause it shows they're out of touch
So unjust to sit around while more people die

How many more trans people have to lie?
Because their medical care keeps being denied
Land of the free yet so many die
Just trying to be true to what's inside
